Sunday Snapshot #28~Theatre Camp

This week the girls went to theatre camp each morning. They loved getting to do some acting and loved going on stage even more! On Friday evening they got to put on a little play to show off what they had been working on all week.

Elody saying her line

Here is a video of the play. Camryn is pretty clear but her line is "Who me? Couldn't be. Must hop, never stop." Elody's line is "Who me? Couldn't be. I'm stuffed, can hardly speak. I ate an antelope last week." The play was only 8 minutes long but if you want to skip ahead to just see the girls you can see Camryn about 2 min 30 sec in and Elody at 4 min 45 sec in. I'm not going to lie, it was cute to watch once but I'm not sure I could sit through it too many times!

After the play they sang a few songs. This was actually slightly more entertaining and also not very long.

Sunday Snapshot #27~ Elody's crash

Elody has been riding her bike without training wheels since the end of May. Being the stubborn little sister that she is she insisted on doing it about a week after Camryn learned. She didn't pick up quite as fast as Camryn did but within a couple days she was really pretty good and would take off and go as often as we would let her.

Less than a week after learning to ride she crashed and did this:
June 1st
I honestly have NO idea how you crash and hit above and below your nose like this, but she did. Maybe at this point I should have realized how much damage she really could do on her bike...

Throughout June she really got good and even got to go with daddy and Camryn on the bike trails. I had noticed lately that she had gotten pretty confident, maybe too confident. I frequently had to remind her to slow down on corners and not to get too close to people while riding but she never seemed to crash. I was fully expecting a crash and figured a good skinned knee would eventually teach her that she had to be more careful.
Last Sunday, while I was not home of course, she crashed again. She did not get the skinned knee I expected. In fact she hit her face again, much like the first time, but this time she got her nose. And even worse than her nose was her mouth. She managed to knock out one front tooth and completely rip the skin on the inside of her lip away from her gums.
After deciding that her nose was okay we called the dentist and met him at his office (always fun on a Sunday night). He reassured us that we had definitely made the right decision to call him. He cleaned her up, sewed up the inside of her lip and sent her home with a special tooth box for the lost tooth.

Although I was tempted, I did not take any pictures while at the dentist office. I'm fairly certain nobody would want to see what I saw there! This picture was right after we got back home. I don't think this picture really shows how swollen it was.
Sunday night after accident
By the next morning the swelling was much worse and it was starting to scab over. Camryn was so sweet, when she first saw her she said, "Oh Elody, you have a little bump, it's soooo cute!"
Monday morning
Tuesday was probably the worst day. She was fully scabbed over, still swollen, and still couldn't eat. Yogurt and applesauce is okay for one day but by day 2 she was sick of it. She tried to pinch off and eat a muffin for lunch and just stood there and cried in pain. She couldn't really open her mouth and her front tooth (the one that wasn't knocked out) was loose and hurting. The poor little peanut was miserable and there was really very little I could do to help.
Tuesday Morning
I finally got her in the tub which seemed to make her feel better but I still couldn't get her to smile :(
Tuesday afternoon
By Tuesday night Elody was finally able to get small bites in. She ate nutrigrain bars and Gerber puff's snacks. The food helped her mood a lot by Wednesday morning she would smile!!
Wednesday morning
Thursday- Happy 4th of July!! By Thursday the swelling was down significantly and some of the scab started peeling off.

Thursday night the scab on her mouth came off completely and the swelling was pretty much gone. My goofy girl was back!!!
Friday
and she was more than ready to ride again!! She probably would have gotten back on her bike immediately but mommy needed a few days :/
Friday
Saturday was HOT and the girls finally got to swim in the pool in the backyard.
Saturday afternoon
The pool seemed to loosen the scab on her nose and my sweet little girl was finally almost all better! To celebrate we took the bikes to Libs Park and rode on the bike trail there for a while. I couldn't talk her into a toothy smile, she is still not real happy about losing a tooth :(
Saturday evening

If you look closely you can see where the accident happened. The dark spots all over the sidewalk was blood. There is a slight drop off in the corners next to where she is sitting and I'm assuming her tire dropped off the side and caused the crash.

May 31, 2013
To be completely honest, it took me a couple days to accept that my sweet little girl will have a missing tooth for at least a year, maybe two. I would never tell her this, but I am sad to see her cute little smile changed so drastically. I really loved the cute little gap in her teeth! Of course she is still as beautiful as ever but it makes me a little sad to see that first baby tooth go. Losing your first tooth should be exciting, right?

Sunday Snapshot #26~ LIttle by little this house will get done....

It's hard to believe it has been more than 3 1/2 year since we moved back to Hastings. That is longer than we lived in our house in Lexington! Since moving into this house we have tried to do little improvements here and there. This month I finally got to tackle one of the projects that has always been near the top of my list of wants, the living room! Unfortunately we had a few projects that had to come first, like replacing walls that had mold on them in the basement and the floor in the main floor bathroom that was half rotted out underneath. We also did the floor in the dining room a while back because the floor in there was atrocious! Anyway, back to the current project... I have never liked the wall color or the carpet in our living room but I didn't want to do one without the doing both so it has stayed the same for almost 4 years.

We painted the built-ins a little over a year ago, this was the best picture I could find to show how ugly they were before.
I had already removed the shelves before I thought to take a picture

this is what the living room looked like a couple weeks ago

it's really scary how much nastiness is under/in carpet!

bye-bye red wall!

most of the room was easy and the flooring went in pretty quick, even with 5 little girls in the house all day!
THIS is why I am soooo glad we decided again trying to save the hardwoods underneath. There were spots like this where the hardwoods had been removed, plus they were not in great shape anyway. This particular doorway ended up being quite a pain to install the laminate floors.

This picture doesn't show the true color of the walls or the floor but it was the best I could do.
DONE!!
it wouldn't be a good blog post without one picture of the girls (and their friend Stella in this case)

Sunday snapshot #25~Summer!

This week will be a short post because I have to post from my phone. Our living room has been torn apart and hopefully I will have a computer again by tonight!

All week Camryn was looking forward to Friday, the first real day of summer. I'm not sure why she thought Friday would be any different than Thursday but she counted down the days all week.
Here are a few pictures of our summer fun!!

Sunday Snapshot #24~ Elody the Magician!

On Tuesday's we go to the library for their summer reading program. Each week they have a different entertainer, some more annoying than others. This week was a comedy magician (who also happened to be here last year). Every week when they ask for volunteers Camryn sits perfectly, raises her hand high and smiles politely hoping she gets picked. So of course Elody was chosen. It seems like Elody is always chosen... Remember the giant Easter basket Elody won at the Easter Egg hunt? And last year at another summer library program the girls were photographed by a Tribune photographer and of course only Elody actually made it in the paper. Camryn handles it pretty well but I feel bad for her still.
I only have video of about half of her time up there and it is actually 3 videos put together because I stopped to take pictures a couple times. Also Elody didn't get to do the whole "trick" because she was actually chosen after another little boy freaked and ran off stage. You'll notice just after a minute into this video Elody also checks for the exit of the stage and is ready to bolt.
Here is the video. Remember he is a Comedy Magician so the first couple minutes are the comedy part and he finally gets to the trick at the end.

This was the smallest wand Elody started with (I think he started with 2 smaller before Elody)

and then it got bigger

he hit himself with the wand here... and of course blamed Elody

and bigger

I love her smile :)

and BIGGER
By the way, I'm fairly certain Elody was picked because she had the reddish color on her dress that made it possible for him to hide the handkerchief in. And because she is way too stinking cute of course! Hopefully Camryn will be chosen for something sometime too.

Sunday Snapshot #23~ Camryn is SIX!! **Warning: Picture overload!**

On Camryn's birthday we went to visit a farm where they raise chickens, LOTS of chickens! Camryn loved it!

Elody didn't love holding them but she liked to be in with the baby chicks.

I told Camryn to stand by this one for a picture and this was her pose :)

They also got to gather eggs

Elody helped a little until some of they chickens got too close to her and then she freaked out.
