Monday Moments #38 ~ Cheer Camp 2014

Friday night the girls got to cheer at the Hastings High football game.  Camryn has done this a couple times before and Elody is always so jealous. Finally Elody is old enough to go too!

Camryn with her friend Addie (Addie was avoiding pictures all night... this was the best I got)

Elody posed for me every time I held up the camera :)

They got to cheer the team onto the field, they both loved this part!

Here is a combination of videos I took. I added some captions so you know what was going on. Poor Elody had a cold that totally knocked her out. She was feeling okay when we got there but it didn't last long. A little ways into the 2nd qtr she gave up and came to sit with us.

Monday Moments #37

Saturday we went to Grand Island to look for new glasses for Brian. Apparently Brian has a large head, meaning there are very few glasses that fit him correctly. After stopping at multiple eyeglass stores the girls decided to take things into their own hands and pick out glasses for him.
Elody's choice

Camryn's choice
Needless to say... we did not buy new glasses! We did find a few pairs better than these but nothing that Brian really liked. It's looking like he might look into contacts rather than spending $500+ on glasses that either don't fit or look hideous!

Since I don't have much to post this week I figured I should finally share some pictures I took of Camryn a while back. I still need to take Elody's pictures so I have been saving Camryn's but I decided it's been long enough.

she looks so grown up!!

we call this her "senior picture pose"

Monday Moments #36 ~ Busy days ahead!

School started almost a month ago and we are starting to get busy. I have never been one to put the girls in every activity, first because I don't like being busy all the time and second I can't afford for them to be in every sport, dance, gymnastics, etc. I have watched many other families juggle multiple activities night after night and I definitely don't envy them! That said, I knew the simple days would end and now that both girls are in school we are seeing the beginning of a new era.
Last week the girls started AWANA again. They are both in SPARKS this year which was really exciting for them. This means they are together for Bible time and game time this year! For now they are happy about that, hopefully it lasts.
Sunday afternoon we took the girls to the Girl Scout kick off event. We signed the girls up and then they got to play games. They had a lot of fun and Elody is beyond excited to be in Daisy's. Camryn will be a Brownie this year. There is a chance their groups will be combined for meetings, fingers crossed!
Next week they are both doing a cheer camp at the high school. They will spend an afternoon with the high school cheerleaders and then they get to help cheer at the football game on Friday night. Elody has been dreaming of this day for the last 2 years, I hope it lives up to her expectations!

I don't have any good pictures to share this week but I just had to share this video of the girls playing just dance at the Girl Scout event.

Monday Moments #35~ late again....

Well, I am posting late again. In my defense, Monday was a holiday this week. Anyway, better late than never I guess.

On Saturday Camryn and Brian went to the Husker game. This year we only had 2 tickets so Elody and I went shopping.
not a great picture due to the shadow but at least Brian got a picture of her at the game this year

Camryn really liked the band at half-time. They played songs from Frozen and made a heart!

Monday Moments #34 ~ It's quiet at home now...

Last Monday Camryn started 2nd grade. Camryn has always liked school but toward the end of first grade she started getting really whiny about going so I was a little nervous that she would put up a good fight about going to 2nd grade. Luckily she must have forgotten about not liking school and she was ecstatic to start 2nd grade. This year will be a big change for Camryn's class as they combined the 2 sections from last year into 1 large class. While I always liked that she had a very small class in kindergarten and 1st grade (around 13 kids), we didn't like that there were only a few girls in her class. This year she has 26 students and 10 are girls! So far the best part of 2nd grade is having Mr. Butler. Camryn has liked Mr. Butler since she was in kindergarten and we were thrilled to find out that she has him as a teacher this year.

Ready for 2nd Grade!!

Mr. Butler and Camryn
On Tuesday Elody started kindergarten!! She was a little sad that she didn't get to start on Monday with Camryn but mommy was glad to have an extra day :) Elody has been counting down the days all summer but the last week or so before school started she started getting nervous. She started to get a little clingy as I left but she managed to hold it together.

My sassy girl is so grown up!

The girls picked the same back pack this year, shockingly they were both okay with that.

Elody found a preschool friend first thing

She got REALLY excited when the bell rang!
Ms. Reeves sent this picture home :)

Monday Moments #33 ~ Our step back in time

Finally a week with something to post!!

Last week the girls and I went to Minden to eat lunch with Brian. After lunch Brian went back to work and the girls and I went to Pioneer Village. I have wanted to take them there for quite some time but it never seemed to work out. I was cautiously hopeful that the girls would enjoy it and it ended up that they loved it! I didn't think they would have any interest in the old buggy's, cars and tractors but they took quite a bit of time looking at each one and Camryn attempted to read every sign. Their enthusiasm about the cars eventually faded (especially since they have building after building after building filled with them!) but they quickly moved on and found other things to get excited about. They loved going in the different buildings and of course made a friend or two.

They loved looking at everything in the main building
Camryn doesn't have the love of trains that she had when she was around the age of 2, but she still can't pass up the chance to climb on one.

and of course pretend to drive it!

Camryn was trying to look sad

that girl's got quite a frown!

their favorite friend of the day, the broom maker

He showed them how to run the machine that wraps the wire around

Elody was quite good at it!

Then he let them do some "sewing"

We ended up spending 3-4 hours there and the girls never seemed to get bored. Having grown up 30 miles from Pioneer Village I have gone there a number of times. It is sad that the place is somewhat rundown now and has struggled to stay open. In a world where everyone wants to be entertained by state-of-the-art, high-tech gadgets I am glad my kids can still appreciate the simple things in life.

Monday Moments #32~My brave girl!

Camryn has been begging to get her ears pierced for months, maybe longer. It was one of those things that I knew would happen sooner or later but I kept putting it off just because I didn't want to deal with the healing process until she was old enough to handle it. A couple months ago she got more serious about wanting to do it and we finally decided that she could, with one condition... she had to save up the money to pay for half of it. Sunday after church we made a quick trip to Grand Island and she finally got her ears pierced.

she was very serious right before, but still confident that she wanted to do it

pretending she wasn't nervous

so brave!

She was very proud, and she didn't shed a single tear!

redness went away and they have hardly bothered her
