Last Wednesday Camryn went to school complaining of a sore throat and came home with a fever and a cough. That evening her breathing was wheezy but she acted fine and was in a good mood. Of course around 8:15pm (15 min after Convenient Care closed) she suddenly got worse. She leaned back on the sofa and couldn't catch her breath. The gasping sounds and look of panic on her face solidified that we were headed to the ER. As we headed out the door she started coughing so hard that I thought she was going to throw up, instead she told me she was fine now and didn't need to go to the hospital. I assumed she was just scared about going and we headed on our way.
Remarkably we got into a room immediately and after we answered all of the crazy Ebola-based questions we realized Camryn didn't even sound wheezy anymore. By this point she could hardly whisper but other than that she looked like a totally normal 7 year old. She even rated her pain as NONE, i.e. she pointed to the biggest smiley face!! We did a strep test (which came back negative) and declined the expensive influenza test and the even more expensive enterovirus test and headed home.
I am grateful that she didn't have anything wrong but frustrated that we will soon receive a hefty bill for an incredibly pointless trip to the ER. That said, if she ever struggles to breathe like that again, we will head straight back to the ER. Well... maybe we will make her cough first :)
Of course Elody had the cough by Thursday/Friday so we sacked out at home and didn't do much. The girls were already out of school Thursday and Friday due to conferences. By Sunday I was going a little stir crazy. We got some much needed work done around the house but there is something about not being able to go anywhere that really makes me want to go somewhere!
Sunday we decided to get out the bookshelves that have been sitting in the garage for months waiting to be painted. Elody wanted to help but was not thrilled with the outfit I picked out for her to paint in :)

Elody has dubbed these adorable purple pants her "fireman pants." She obviously wears way too many pairs of leggings and skinny jeans and therefore decided that since these are loose she looks like a fireman.
